Because I had previously had a difficult time locating Oldsquaw, I thought
some Tweeters might be interested in a group of four we saw on a SAS field
trip yesterday. Leader Richard Youel put us on the float at Mystery Bay on
Marrowstone Island where we had great looks at four beautifully plumaged
birds in a narrow channel. Veterans on the trip indicated these were the
closest looks they had seen. Mystery Bay is on p. 94 of the Delorme atlas,
coordinates D3.

Another highlight on the trip was standing on Wilson Point (Fort Worden)
watching hundreds of Pacific Loons in a flyover exhibition. Also, looking
down from the pier at a Red Throated Loon probably 15 feet below us gave a
wonderful view of the bird, especially watching it swimming leisurely and
then diving in the crystal clear water. Great show!

Special thanks to Richard who had scouted the area the week before to
assure we would have maximum results. He even had us under a picnic shelter
at noon during the only significant rain we encountered all day.
