Arlene,

On Thursday of last week, 2 American Goldfinch dined at my window feeders.
This was an exciting FIRST. Then on Saturday and Sunday, all 3 feeders
were covered with Pine Siskins, another FIRST. They were ravenous and
devoured the hulled sunflower seeds almost non-stop all day. Those that
procured a spot at a feeder dropped pieces for the others on the window
sills and ground. They made me laugh because they stood-off the fattened
sparrows, twice their size, by spreading their wings and tail feathers and
saying "buzz off!" The sparrows, used to intimidating the house finch and
chickadees, were flabergasted. It was great fun.
