I disagree, but only semantically. I believe that a small percentage of
WOS members are involved with the study of birds to the extent that they
meet the (admittedly blurry) definition of ornithologist. Tweeters has/have
been through this defining business before, though, and I don't wish to
belabor it.
I am concerned that birdwatchers or birders who don't see themselves as
ornithologists will think that WOS has nothing to offer them. That's simply
not true. They (you) will be in good company. As Russell wrote:

Anyone learning from or contributing to Tweeters is qualified to learn
from and contribute to WOS.
