I think Scott makes a good point. I have alway equated the terms amateur
ornithologist and birdwatcher, but some people do not. I think some people
are intimidated by the name "Ornithological Society", in fact some people
have told me so. I sometimes hear that they didn't feel qualified enough
to join. This certainly is not the case, as there are no qualification
required in becoming a member. Oh, there is one possible exception, which
is the willingness to learn more about birds.

If you are interested in birds, at any level, you will not be
disappointed in becoming a WOS member.
