Tweeters,

Jim Watson, a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife research biologist,
has been conducting research on movements of bald eagles in the greater Puget
Sound area including study of the movements of Hood Canal birds (complementing
the contaminants research). Jim has equipped bald eagles with transmitters
that allow for movement tracking by satellite. I am not sure how many eagles
are currently equipped with the satellite transmitters. They are providing
locational "fixes" frequently and the eagles can now be followed over a large
geographic range relatively cheaply. This research has confirmed long distance
movements in the post-breeding period (to Alaska and northern British Columbia,
I believe).
