Quick comment on the rally at Westlake last week. A few of my students
went to the "pro-social responsibility" crowd outside the hotel as the
expensive dinner for Newt was going on inside. The two kids who spoke addressed
environmental issues; ESA and Repeal the Rider. They were the only ones
to speak to these issues and the crowd loved it. By the way a crowd which
out numbered the pro-Newt folks 4 to 1. Seattle Police and Public Radio
stated there were "like numbers." We know, we walked through both crowds.
Speaking up when possible "on issues, not people" is important. It was a
great experience, politics aside. Afterall, it is Martin Luther King Jr.
holiday. We're off to slog our snowshoes up to some native forest by
Lanham Lake near Stevens Pass.
