Visited Dungeness for the first time on Sunday. An immature Bald Eagle was
fun to watch and a group of three Harlequins were fun to watch. Buffleheads
seem to be getting ready for the breeding season. There was a group of 4, 3
males and 1 female. The female stayed pretty close to one male. As he got
more impatient with the other males he would do battle with them. Really
churned up the water. Sometimes the female would join in the battles and then
return to her chosen one. Romance of a sort.
I was surprised to see the large number of Red-necked Grebes on the
Bainbridge side of the ferry. Close to 20 individuals. Also a Barrow's
Goldeneye pulling mollusks off one of the larger pilings.
