Agreed, heavy, but far more useful than anything else on the market, and was
happy to have it during a recent Mazatlan port call for a few days of
birding in the Barrancas. The species range maps are really handy. Highly
recommended.

If you get a chance to get offshore, you may find swarms of Townsend's
shearwaters just a few miles out. At least they were there in Sep-Oct. If
not on a marlin fishing trip or something, you could consider one of the
ferrys to LaPaz or somewhere. The Townsend's are in the Bay off PV, but I
don't know if the ferry might transit that area at night or not, although I
wouldn't think so. If at night, it's no good of course.
