Since we weren't fortunate to be able to look for the Vermillion Flycatcher
or the Brambling (yes we are envious), Lorna and I did the Wenatchee--Soap
Lake--Waterville loop yesterday (1/15) morning with the intent to see if
the Blue Lake Yellow-billed Loon was still around. We couldn't find the
loon, or any loon for that fact on Blue Lake. However, among the highlights

-- Eurasian Wigeon at the Douglas County Park along the Columbia River in
East Wenatchee.

-- About ten Double-crested Cormorants on the rocks just above Rock Island
Dam. Not really a highlight, because these birds have really become common
winter birds along the Columbia River.

-- Three Mourning Doves at the end of the Palisades Road in Douglas Co.

-- Gyrfalcon about two miles west of Trinidad in Douglas Co., along Hwy 28.

-- Red-breasted Mergansers on Blue Lake and Banks Lake. Blue Lake was
covered with mergansers of both species.

-- Snow Buntings along Hwy 2 near St. Andrews, Douglas Co. We encountered
very few flocks of Horned Larks. Melting snow may be opening up areas away
from the
highway. However, there were about six Snow Buntings in the first Horned
Larks we found.
