During a *brief* dry moment this weekend, while looking for an unused clean
spot to press my nose against a wet, drippy window, one of those magic
little moments happened. A small flock of Townsend's Warblers flew in to
the large fotsia (sp?) plant just outside our window. A pretty little
female hopped & bobbed right up to the top, barely 18 inches from my face,
and posed prettily for me. I called my wife to the window, and we absorbed
the moment... a very brief moment, unfortunately.

Suddenly, the neighbors' blasted cat came rushing in a full run across the
lawn, straight for the plant. My reaction was instinctive... I beat loudly
on the window. The cat did a quick U-turn and streaked away as quickly as
it had come. Unfortunately, so did the warblers; after that fright, they
may never visit my yard again!

Such ultra close-up moments are so rare, it was really a disappointment to
have a cat ruin it.
