I also got the report of a Northern Hawk Owl at Nisqually and went looking
on Monday, January 15th. I didn't see anything resembling that bird. The
report said they had watched it hunt for about 20 minutes and they provided
a good description of the bird. It was reported from the area north of the
McAllister Creek trail about 50 yards east of the junction with the dike
trail. Best guess is a Male Northern Harrier which has been frequenting that
area.

On my way back to the parking lot (seconds before a giant squall descended
upon me) I saw a small passerine which was very distinctly white and black
and had the appearance of a Snow Bunting. It was perched on a post at the
bend in the road which leads from the parking lot to the Twin Barns, just
south of the bridge over the little creek. The bird flew too quickly for me

to get my binocs on it, but had a flight pattern similar to that of a snow
bunting. Something to keep in mind when you're out there.
