Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday January 18. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

The Newport DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER is still being seen in the neighborhood
of 6th. and Nye Streets west of Highway 101. During windy and stormy
weather it apparently finds shelter in the wooded area near 8th. and Nye
Streets.

The VERMILION FLYCATCHER continues to be seen in the Carty Unit of
Ridgefield NWR. On January 13, six TREE and two BARN SWALLOWS were flying
about the south end of the Refuge over Parking Lot C in the River S Unit.

The Neselle BRAMBLING is still coming to Rex Ziak's feeders. For the latest
information call Rex at (360) 484-3491.

The WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS are still being seen at Santiam Pass but heavy
snows and treacherous roads make a visit there hazardous.

The BLACK PHOEBE is still being seen at Nute Slough and the RED-SHOULDERED
HAWK is still at nearby Hidden Valley. Two WHITE-TAILED KITES and a TURKEY
VULTURE were at Hidden Valley January 13. Both of these areas are along the
upper Yaquina Bay between Newport and Toledo.

A SNOW GOOSE were along Highway 101 at the Nestucca Bay NWR January 14.
That day a flock of 11 RED-NECKED GREBES were at the mouth of Tillamook Bay
and a GLAUCOUS GULL was near Sand Lake.

A GLAUCOUS GULL was chasing other gulls of the light standards on the
Burnside Bridge in Portland January 14. Another was at Clackamette Park
near Oregon City January 17. Others have been at the Corvallis Dump and in
Eugene.

The EMPEROR GOOSE remains at the small pond along Cleveland Avenue south of
Gresham. From Powell Blvd. in Gresham turn south on Hogan Road and drive a
mile or so turning right onto Cleveland Avenue and continue down the hill
to the lake.

On January 12 an EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was on Hagg Lake in Scoggins
Valley Park south of Forest Grove. On January 14 a RED-THROATED LOON was on
Hagg Lake and has remained.

A probable GYRFALCON was reported from the Mohoff Pond area of Ankeny NWR
near Salem January 10. One was in this area last year.

The SCRUB JAY continues to be seen near Fossil. On January 10 a ROCK WREN
was in the same area.

A female SURF SCOTER was at the west end of Suttle Lake just east of
Santiam Pass January 13. Two LEWIS' WOODPECKERS were near Sisters that day.


A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was south of Madras near Haystack Reservoir January 14.
That day a flock of 70 MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were along Highway 126 near
Redmond.
