Interesting subject which brings a question to mind. I had heard on the
radio a week or two ago that in 1997 or 1998, wood burning fireplaces and
stoves would become illegal in all new homes built in Washington State (or
maybe just certain parts) and, before you could even sell your home,
modifications would have to be built to disallow any wood burning. IOW, gas
or electric fireplaces only. Hmmm. I was discussing this with my housemate
/ landlord, and we got off into the subject of slash burning. He seemed to
think that slash burning is now prohibited in Washington State. Is that
true? Come to think of it, and I've probably not been really paying
attention, but I don't recall seeing burning slash for some time in the past
year or two. Just the big ol' forest fires.
