This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Rare Bird Hotline for
January 19, 1996. For any questions regarding LCBAS call Mike Lilga at
946-8966.

On January 12, Mike Denny found 2 Harris's Sparrows at Lyon's Ferry State
Park, on the Franklin County side of the Snake River. As you approach the
park from the north, the sparrows are in a tangle of roses on the west side
of the road just down from the park sign. Also present nearby were 4 Hooded
Mergansers.

Also on January 12, Randy Hill of Othello found 2 Snowy Owls near Moses
Lake. If you drive north on Highway 17, after crossing I-90, turn east, at
the truck stop and proceed to Road L-NE. Go north on L-NE and watch for the
owls sitting on the sprinkler lines (wheel lines) that are found between
Nelson and Wheeler Roads.

Mike Denny reported a female Harlequin duck was present on Mill Creek near
the Walla Walla Community College on January 13.

Phil Bartley found 13 Dunlin on the Walla Walla Delta January 14, and a
Great Egret at McNary Park (McNary Dam, OR) on the same day.

Ron and Carol Lauderback (?sp) independently found the (Great) Egret on
January 14 and 15 and photographed it.

Finally, on January 13, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise, Warren Hall and I (Bob
Woodley) found an Orange-crowned Warbler at Madam Dorian Park at the Walla
Walla Delta and up the hill behind the Twin Sisters rock formation, we found
3 Canyon Wrens and very surprisingly a flock of 6 Wild Turkey.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
