I'm getting crazy about the "kestrel in a bush" messages. I usually prefer
to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this is a bird I've been
specially conscious of for decades (did research on them in Florida), and
I've never heard of one hanging around urban bushes. Yes, they do sit on
telephone wires in cities, and they're common in many parts of the country
in urban situations, but one in a bush in Seattle is--IMHO--a lot less
likely than a Siberian accentor or a hooded warbler in the same situation.

So when Doug's posting got some support from the observations of others,
I wrote him privately, and he's conceded that his bird might not have been
a kestrel. Any chance you might be less than positive about your kestrel,
Irene.
