A week or so ago I sent a note asking for info regarding whether the American
Lake little gull was still being seen. No one responded, positively or
negatively, although a number did ask me to forward any responses.
I took it upon myself yesterday to find out. There were hundreds of
bonapartes, so it took me a while to wade through, but I was able to find the
bird (I assume the same one previously reported). The dark under wings and
all gray (except white trailing edge) on the upper wings was easily seen,
though the bird was somewhat far out.
Interestingly, the flight cadence seemed to differ slightly from the
bonapartes'. It appeared the little gull hadeven more of a deliberate
downstroke on the wingbeats than the bonies. Anyone else ever observed this?
