This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Rare Bird Hotline for
January 25, 1996. For any questions regarding LCBAS call Mike Lilga at
946-8966.

On January 14, Jay Degrosiller found an immature Red-shouldered Hawk near
the junction of Maple and Lake Streets, near the McNary National Wildlife
Refuge Headquarters. Its identification was confirmed on January 20, by
Mike and MerryLynn Denny. This is the first record for Eastern Washington
and it's well worth your effort to see it. It has remained in reasonably
close proximity to the refuge headquarters.

Also on January 20, Ron and Carol Lauderbach found an Oldsquaw on the Oregon
side of the Columbia, near the Pendleton Grain Growers Elevators, just
upstream from McNary Dam. On January 21, they found a Cooper's Hawk near
the Kiwanis section of Columbia Park and a Prairie Falcon working the area
around Vista Field and the TriTech Vocational School on Metaline in Kennewick.

Bill and Nancy LaFramboise found 4 Snowy Owls along Road L-NE in Moses Lake
on January 21. Drive north on Highway 17 and after crossing I-90, turn east
at the truck stop and proceed to Road L-NE. Turn north and watch for the
owls sitting on the sprinkler lines (between Nelson Rd and Rd 3 (Wheeler))

On January 22, Randy Hill of Othello reported that Short-eared Owls are
regular along Highway 17 at the Adams/Grant county line.

On January 23, Mary Lilga observed 7 Pine Siskin at her thistle seed and
black-oil sunflower seed feeders in Richland.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.
