We had a birding experience at 3:00 AM this morning that is a first for us.
For about five minutes a bird was singing somewhere within a few feet of
our open apartment window. Instead of getting the recorder, I tried to open
the window further to see if I could see the bird. At that point it
stopped.

The song was about three notes repeated in a warbling pattern followed by
an ending trill. The notes were extremely clear. The singing seemed to
originate in an outer porch near an exterior light. Our apartment is on the
third floor.

Can anyone enlighten me about bird song at night? Any ideas what bird it
might be? Tonight I will have the tape recorder handy, in case we get a
repeat performance.
