Red-tailed hawks certainly nest at the south end of Lake Sammamish. I know
of at least two nesting pairs including the nest locations in Lake Sammamish
State Park. Nesting begins early, with birds on the nest by mid-March.

BTW, there has been a flock of up to 170 dunlin off and on for the past two
weeks and a single male Eurasian wigeon on soccer field #3-9, across the road
from the Arco Station. Dunlin are quite scarce if not rare at this inland
location. I've only seen a single dunlin there once before, and now, with up
to 170, it must be some sort of local record. Also rather regular has been a
merlin, and the two swamp sparrows previously reported a while back continue
to be seen in the wet marsh/swamp south of the boat launch off East Lake
Sammamish Parkway. The two sites are marked with orange flagging, and
....wear your gum boots where-ever you go there -- maybe snow shoes if this
current burst of snow keeps up.
