And after contributing to the start of this whole thing, I must report
that my numbers have rebounded. Had around 30 siskins at the feeders this
afternoon when I ran home for a break; all seemed very healthy. My
transient song sparrow also returned. Refilled the birdbath
after removing the ice discus from it, and many had warm water--until it
starting freezing half an hour later. Reminds me of my youth on the
plains of Nebraska . . .
