I read a study in the Journal of Field Ornithology 5-10 years ago, in
which they tested various ways of deterring bird impacts. Falcon
silouettes were ineffective at "normal density," that is to say one or two
per window. I think the only way they found to reduce impacts with stuff
pasted on windows was to have paper strips spaced very close (about 6", if
I remember right). So maybe dense flocks of hawk and owl silouettes would
help, but probably feeder placement and keeping windows on the opposite
side curtained off (so the birds can't see a path through the house) are
better strategies.
