I have been fascinated by the changes in my regular yardbirds brought about
by the weather. Until the snow, the Varied Thrushes and RW Blackbirds
weren't seen. I'll be interested to see if they become regulars now that
they've discovered Brown's Diner.

Someone mentioned that their thrushes lurked in some berry bushes (like some
Tweeters). Mine seem very bold, dining on the seed knocked to the ground
under the feeders. Starting with just one, word seems to have spread and I
have had 5-6 the last few days. As a school employee with Monday and Tuesday
off and nowhere to go, I had the opportunity to really observe these birds
as well as the regulars. My Pine Siskens (usually about twenty) were back as
usual this morning.

I have also acquired a new address (see signature). I chose "Borealis" for
the Olive-sided Flycatcher. When I was a teenager, my dad pointed one out in
a Douglas Fir near our Mercer Island home. He told me its call was
advertising "free beer". Naturally, at that age I was quite impressed. One
seemed to be calling from the same tree almost every year after that. Now, I
rarely hear them.
