This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for June 27,

Of a total of 26 "Western Type" grebes on the Yakima Delta on June 18, at
least 2 were CLARK'S GREBES.

Also on June 18, it appeared that both OSPREY nests on the Franklin county
side of the Columbia River contain young. (Looking from Richland across the
river,) one nest is on the power pole about opposite Newcomer Street, the
other is on the (LCBAS) installed platform opposite the Hanford House.

On June 20, Dennis Rockwell observed an GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE with
Canada Geese on the lagoon in Two Rivers Park in Finley. Two days later he
became godfather to 3 downy SPOTTED SANDPIPERS which hatched from a nest in
his yard in the park.

Also on June 22, Dennis and Phil Bartley found 19 AMERICAN AVOCET on the
mudflats east of Madam Dorian Park at the Walla Walla Delta.

Tony Greager reports a family of 10 BURROWING OWLS (2 adults and 8 young)
near the junction of Union Loop Road and Hildebrand Road in Kennewick on
June 21.

Tony also found 2 LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE on June 21 along Badger Canyon Road just
up the hill from the canyon proper.

More exciting, on June 24, Tony discovered that there are 2 NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRDS at the Buckskin Loop site, hopefully nesting.

A male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD appeared at Ruth Fischer's feeder in Richland on
June 25 and another found my feeder the following day.

Lastly, a CLARK'S GREBE plied the water adjacent to Nelson Island and the
LCBAS picnic in Groves Park on the evening of June 25. Check all "Western
type" grebes carefully for this species.
