Michael Smith wondered about Great Gray Owl records for the Blue Mountains.
I know of no records since 1985, but in similar habitat just across the
Snake River in the Clearwarer Mountains of Idaho there have been two
documented sightings. One was near Winchester in Oct. 1989 (Jeff Palmer)
and one was about ten miles south of there in April 1992 (Carol
VandeVoorde). Also there was a sighting, accompanied with photographs, in
unusual habitat along Couse Creek, ten miles south of Clarkston in
Washington, in January 1996 (Winnie Hepburn et al). Hence they are in the
