In reply to the query over boat trips to the Island George Gerdts
does offer trips to the island though not regularly. He recently
completed a trip to the island on June 16, I'm not sure if he's going
again this summer. If you are looking for some of the species that
Protection Island has to offer you might try Diamond Pt. from land,
it can be reached by taking the Diamond Pt. RD. off of Hwy.101 after
passing Discovery Bay. You can get glimpses of PUffins and although
50-60X on a scope is necessarry you can get some of the nesters on
the cliffs.
