I went into the Moulton Falls/Yacolt block last Friday and got 44 species
and 8 confirms within 3 hours in mid-afternoon. Highlights were my first
confirm of Pacific-slope Flycatcher, a singing Olive-sided Flycatcher,
and numerous Western Tanagers. Evidence of Pileated activity was
everywhere, but no birds were seen--I am going to note this for atlas
purposes, though I am hoping to get back in a couple or three weeks (the
Jack Mtn. block some three miles west has no TErcel accessible roads). I'd
also note that Orange-crowned and Wilson's Warblers were both singing
throughout my viewing period, which was in mid-afternoon. Both have also
been singing lately in the West Hills above Portland (a habitat which is
becoming more and more fragmented quickly). Ray K
