I've been spotting white crowned sparrows around town where I'd never
thought to see them before.

Yesterday, I was in a drive-through lane of a bank near Factoria, and
there were white-crowned sparrows hopping along through the bark. At
first I thought I was just mistaking a house sparrow, but they hopped
right under my truck window and sure 'nuff, they really were white-crowned.

Then, I spotted more hopping around the plantings on the edges of the
parking lot at work (in Eastgate).

Somehow I've never thought of them as sharing typical house sparrow
urban areas. Is this a misconception on my part? Are they typically
spotted in the city these days? Was this strange, to see them where I
saw them?

Thanks,

Susan
