Generous Tweeters, I'm diving into my list of 100+ tweeters postings that
have accumulated since our Bewick's Wren nest-moving drama last weekend.
I asked for fast advice about moving a the nest from a rolled up
boat canvas to another location. I had just arrived home to find my upset
18-yr old son mounting a rolled up cardboard/duct-tape contraption in boat
shed so he could transfer the nest from his dad's boat, in preparation for
one of those very important fishing trips.
Janet, thanks for your immediate, right-on-target response. If only
you'd written a couple hours *before* I asked the question... And thanks
for the concern and tips from many others.
Although we thought we glimpsed one youngster buried in fluffed
nest interior during the rapid transfer, the parents made several trips to
nest at new site & then quit coming. The next day, we discovered the
bodies of three incredibly precious chicks. Somehow, during the moving
preparations, they had "jumped ship," climbing out of the canvas, up over
the boat window, or toward the stern & over the sides & out onto a grassy
area in the hot sun.
Too great a sacrifice, even for the best fishing trip. (In answer to
your question, Clarice, they didn't catch anything.)
