Our swallows have given up their box. We don't know what happened other
than before we left for vacation, they were busily building a nest. When we
returned there were egg shells lying on the ground beneath the nest but the
swallows still frequented the box. Eventually, they ceased that all together.

After a couple of days of no swallow activity, we opened the box to see if
perhaps there was a dead chick inside but all we found we a perfect little
nest with a single egg buried deep in duck feathers.

Anybody have any speculation? I can't imagine what could have gotten into
the box and thrown out the eggs.
