Hi folks,

Here's a forwarded request from the Seabird-L listserver for volunteers =
to assist with penguin research during the New Zealand summer (our =
winter!!). I'm 'way past being able to jump and run for field =
opportunities like this, but here's hoping someone out there is raring =
and able.

Subject: [SEABIRD:362] Volunteers. Yellow-eyed penguin Research

I am looking for at least two volunteers/lowly paid people for the New =
Zealand summer- mid Sept to end of February 1997. Yellow-eyed penguins =
are probably the rarest of all penguins, but fortuneatly my main study =
areas are twenty minutes from my home on the Otago Peninsula, part of =
the City of Dunedin. The study has been in train for the last 16 years =
and concerns itself with the population dynamics and conservation =
biology of this species. We cover everything possible in about 120 pairs =
scattered over about 100ha. Two people are preferred, at least one =
should be a biology graduate and=20
should consider that the experience would be valuable. You need to be =
fairly fit, have a clean driving licence and be comfortable in a 4WD =
vehicle. The driver preferably should be over 25.

I cannot pay a substantial wage or meet your transport costs to NZ, but =
I can pay sufficient to meet all your living costs and a bit more. The =
successful applicants must be prepared to work the whole period mid Sept =
to end of Feb. Living accomodation can be provided at my home if you are =
willing to put up with Golden Retriever, share food costs and cooking.

You should note that although I believe that YEPS are fantastic birds, =
there is nothing romantic about working with them. They will poo all =
over you at the slightest opportunity, belt the hell out of you given =
the chance and generally can make your life miserable if you are not =
really interested.

If you are interested, give me a call, also perhaps let me have the name =
and address/email/phone of someone who can convince me that you are the =
people for the job.

Cheers,
