I remember Red-Eyed Vireos from the big cottonwoods along the Fraser R. near Ladner in
what is now Ladner Harbour Park when I was a kid. Also had one singing this afternoon in
my back yard here in PG. In big cottonwoods, as well. More around this summer than in
any of the eight years I've been here so far. Encouraging. Incidentally, that cold wet
spring seemed to have helped extend the singing season of passerines here in central BC.
I had to run a BBS on the late date of July 7 because of an earlier rainout. Usually
this would be a lost cause but birds were singing all over the place. In fact, we had
our highest number of singing Orange-crowned Warblers (OCWA) ever on any of the 4 BBSes
I run here (take that those who think OCWA clam up early).
