Although the main purpose of our trip was to look for dragonflies, here are
a few sightings I thought might be of interest to recordkeepers and
wandering birders:

Western Grebe - 1 at West Twin Lake (nr. Winthrop), 11 July (probably not a
breeding population)
Turkey Vulture - 1 at Marblemount, 12 July (my first for Whatcom Co., but
the BBA shows records from the area)
Red-naped Sapsucker - 1 at Rainy Pass, 11 July (rather far west; wonder
just how much this and Red-breasted overlap)
Boreal Chickadee - 4 at Freezeout Ridge, 12 July (not unexpected, fairly
common anywhere in spruces from Freezeout Pass up to Long Swamp)
Pine Grosbeak - 4 at Rainy Pass, 11 July; 1 at Freezeout Ridge, 12 July

Only a smattering of bird song now, mostly vireos and thrushes but the
occasional song from a variety of species. Many species flocking up
already, particularly blackbirds and starlings.

I hated missing the Yakathon. Only the need for intensive dragonfly
searching (something like intensive soul searching) could have taken me
from it, and there won't be a conflict if the next one is during the
winter!
