One place I saw them in the winter was the Skagit flats area. We were
walking out in the delta area and I noticed what I thought was a group of
flickers on a small tree (They were silhouetted by the sun in the western
sky.) When I got closer I saw the yellow and black on the breast and was
pleasantly surprised to see they were meadowlarks. To this day, I still
haven't seen them again in Western Washington. I guess I've never been in
the right place at the right time.
