This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for July 14,

On July 7, Duane Faletti and his wife observed a PEREGRTINE FALCON at the
Devil's Punchbowl on the Oregon Coast between Lincoln City and Newport.
Somewhat closer to home, at Cape Meares near Tillamook OR, my wife Pat and
her sister watched 4 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2 adult and 2 young of the year, on
June 26. The birds presumably nested nearby.

Ruth Fischer and Nancy LaFramboise birded the Walla Walla Delta on July 10.
Present were 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, numerous WESTERN SANDPIPERS, and at least
3 BONAPARTE'S GULLS. On the pond a little east of the delta were another
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a BLACK-NECKED STILT, and 5 AMERICAN AVOCETS.

They also checked Buckskin Loop and found 2 NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS (still
present although) Tony Greager had only noted 1 there on July 9.

Ruth also mentioned that a male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD had been visiting her
feeder about 3 times per week since June 25.

On July 10, Jim Coleman observed GREAT EGRETS on the Columbia River near the
300 area north of Richland.

Finally Taffy Mercer (raptor rehabilitator) has reported the loss of her
HARRIS HAWK near Two Rivers County park in Finley on July 10. This
beautiful hawk which is brown overall with chestnut shoulder patches, wing
linings and leggings and white at the base and tip of its long tail is
native to southern Arizona, Texas and southward. This particular bird has
leather bracelets but no jesses on each leg and a (USFWS) gold band on its
right leg. It is missing a central tail feather and primary wing feather.
