This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Two NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS are persisting near Richland,
Washington. Look for them along Buckskin Loop 0.4 mile in from Van
Giesen Road. Van Giesen crosses the Bypass Highway and continues
toward West Richland. Buckskin is the first street on the right just west
of the bypass. Look for the birds across from the abandoned cars. It
likes the third utility pole. Washington DeLorme p. 39, B6.

Jerry Tangren reports another NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD about 5 miles
west of Ephrata, Washington on July 6. First spotted by Nancy Leonard,
this bird is near a farmyard along Baird Springs Road, about 3.5 miles
west of the intersection of Baird Springs and Sagebrush Flats Road.

BURROWING OWLS. Duke and Kelly Ruhl (sp?) saw a family of 10 birds
on June 29 just opposite MP 13 along Washington 17, half way between
Mesa and the turnoff for Connell (aka WA 260). Mike and MerryLynn saw
one owl in this same locale on July 4. Washington DeLorme p. 53, D8.

Three VIRGINA RAILS, included 2 recently fledged birds, were at the
Othello, Washington sewage ponds on July 4, according to the Denny's.
The ponds are at the west end of Main Street in Othello. Just drive west
to you run into them. Also there were 2 pr BLACK-NECKED STILT with 2
young and 7 BLUE-WINGED TEAL. Just a few miles west of Othello, at
the County Line Ponds, which are about 0.5 mile inside the Grant County
line along Washington 26, Mike and MerryLynn report 2 pr AMERICAN
AVOCETS with 3 chicks and 7 WESTERN SANDPIPERS. Washington

At the north end of Potholes Reservoir, just south of Moses Lake,
Washington, the Denny's saw several good birds on July 4. Take the
Hiawatha Exit off I-90 and head to the game preserve area. There, Mike
and MerryLynn saw 18 GREAT EGRETS, 7 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-
HERONS, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1
CLARK'S GREBE, 3 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 6 FORESTER'S TERNS, and
40 or so DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS. Washinton DeLorme p. 69,

At Mann Lake near Lewiston, Idaho, Dan Svingen and I saw about 40
WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 1 WILSON'S PHALAROPE, 1 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHER, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 2 CASPIAN TERNS on July
6. To get to Mann Lake, take US 12 west into Lewiston, cross the
Clearwater Bridge and immediately turn left toward East Lewiston.
Follow Main Street to the blinking yellow light and turn right onto
Lindsay Creek Road. Stay right at the Y and follow Lindsay Creek until it
dead ends at Grelle. Turn left onto Grelle, and just after Grelle makes a
20 mph right turn, turn left toward the lake. Head straight about 1.3
miles to the dead end and the lake. Idaho DeLorme p. 54, A1.

Mike Denny reports 450 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 1 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER, 6 AMERICAN AVOCETS, and 6 BONAPARTE'S GULLS at
the Walla Walla River Delta on July 3. The delta is about 30 miles west
of Walla Walla, Washington, just north of the intersection of US 730 and

Finally, Dan Svingen reports a family of THREE-TOED WOODPECKERS
along FS 1862, about 20 miles east-southeast of Grangeville, Idaho. Call
