Regarding suburban coyotes,

I've seen 'em twice in Bothell. This is a suburban area north of Seattle,
which I've always appreciated for leaving up a good number of old firs and
cedars. I don't know how long ago the area was developed, but never shy
from guessing :-), I would estimate 20 to 30 years old.

One encounter was around noon time (a couple of years ago), I spotted an
adult on the opposite side of a major road (Filbert Road), in a large
(about one acre) undeveloped but open lot.

The other encounter was while cycling to work, near a golf course and
river, when another adult bolted across the road literally inches in front
of my bicycle wheel; close enough to hear its nails scraping the pavement
as it ran at full tilt.

Now if they would only come into Seattle, and put some predatory pressure
on the local 'coons...

While I'm digressing from birds: saw an otter off of Myrtle Edwards park
in Seattle (this is where the "grain terminal" and last year's offspring
of Stewart has purportedly taken up residence) at the end of June this
year.
