Today, Steve Mlodinow, Greg Toffic, Henry Habart and myself saw a
Hudsonian Godwit flying over Crockett Lake on Whidbey Island. We first
noticed it over the middle of the lake flying to the east, then if circled
around and flew off to the west towards the Strait of Juan de Fuca and out
of sight. We watched it for about 1 a minute. It was in alternate plumage
as it had a dark underside. The axillaries were black. The wings had a
white stripe suggestive of a Willit. The rump was white and the tail was
dark (i.e. not barred). One cool bird!

We did not make any attempts to locate the bird else where.

In all we saw 18 species of shorebirds including 10 or so Semipalmated
Sandpipers also at Crockett Lake and about 35 Ruddy Turnstones at Penn
Cove.
