This is Dale Goble with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

All of the reports this week come from the Lake Coeur d'Alene area.

On July 19th, Wayne Melquist, Don Johnson, and Shirley Sturts saw 2
CASPIAN TERNS on Cougar Bay. Don Johnson and Wayne Melquist saw
another in immature plumage from the city beach in Coeur d'Alene. On
July 20th, Shirley Sturts and Janet Callen saw 2 terns on Chatcolet Lake;
Pam and Gordon Comrie saw another bird on Mica Bay.

On July 20th, Herb and Jan Severtson saw a DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANT on Cougar Bay. A tug boat operator on reported that 2
cormorants had been present earlier this summer and that 3 had been in
the bay for the entire summer of 1995.

A pair of RED-NECKED GREBE with 2 chicks were seen on Chatcolet Lake
off Rocky point boat launch by Shirley Sturts and Janet Callen. Canoeing
toward Benewah Lake from the launch, they saw two more pair with 1
chick each and in Benewah lake there was another pair with 2 chicks. In
other parts of Lake Chatcolet they saw 4 more RED-NECKED GREBES
without young. The only other waterfowl on either lake were 6
Cinnamon Teal and 6 Canada Geese.

Also on the 20th, Shirley Sturts and Janet Callen saw 3 NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH in the shrubbery forming the channel of the St. Joe River
where it passes through Lake Chatcolet.

Finally, Gordon Comrie saw a COMMON LOON on Coeur d'Alene Lake
while biking along the Centennial Trail east of Coeur d'Alene on the 21st.
An immature plumaged loon was seen on July 2 by the Coeur d'Alene
Audubon Chapter Bird Survey of Mica Bay.
