Michael Price wrote an impassioned wail over crimes against nature by the
"exasperating and thoroughly incompetent Vancouver (BC) Park Board--never
an outfit to let a chance to degrade wildlife habitat go by unfulfilled if
it can help it." He asked, "Where is the local Vancouver BC birding
community on this?" The "tidy and trimmed" park mentality can be a real
pain to those who love natural environments and the animals that live in
them. It would certainly be best if the local community took up the
battle wherever it has to be fought, but I'll go out on a limb and ask a
question here: Michael, do you think it would do any good for the
broader community of birders and other naturalists to do some
protesting? I ask hestitantly, especially because we're talking across
an international border; the Vancouver Park Board could get very
resentful over intrusion by Canadians who don't live in the city and
positively irate if any of us Yankees tried to protest. On the other
hand, the birds are international, too. Anyway, what do you think?
