I can relate to Abdy's post, as a very young kid (I'm only 20+ now) I
was facinated by the natural world. I want to learn about insects,
mammals, and yes birds. Petersons field guides and his enthusiamism
for his work made me decide that I wanted to enter into the natural
sciences. By the time I was 7-8 years old I carried a Peterson field
guide to western birds at all times in the outdoors. If it wasn't for
my mothers gift of a Petersons field guide I dont know if I would
have choosen the field of Ornithology as a career. Hopefully from
somewhere Roger you can read these Posts and know that you
significantly helped to direct a young mans career into something
that I love more than anything, birds.
Luckily his precense can touch other people long after his passing,
through his work. Rest in peace Roger Tory and know that you probably
touch millions of people more than you ever had an idea that you
influenced.
