Subject: Three-Toed Woodpecker Here?

I know someone who lives near Echo Lake (just off the Monroe highway), and
she says she definitely saw a 3-Toed woodpecker on their property. I
asked if she could have mistaken a Hairy for a 3-toed, but she insisted
that it was an actual 3-toed. One of my Petersen's guides says that some
immature Hairys can have a yellowish to orange mark on the head instead of
the common red. Can any of you Tweeters out there tell me if there is a
precedent for such a sighting west of the Cascades?
