Hi Tweets,

Went to the window for a breath of air and over the house opposite saw a
male Purple Martin, still a *quite* rare bird for Vancouver BC.
Historically, an uncommon nester before House Sparrows and European
Starlings arrived. Closest known breeding population is at Cowichan Bay on
the SE coast of Vancouver Island. A nestbox program at Maplewood Flats in
North Vancouver BC has had some limited success attracting martins back to
the checklist area, and I believe there's currently one nesting pair there.
Except for them, the usual pattern of vagrant martin appearance is last
week May or first week June.

The first new species for the yard list in a while, too!
