Just got back from checking out the new connection on the Snoqualmie Valley
Trail - the new bridge that connects the trail from Duvall to Snoqualmie.
There was an old trestle missing, but today we rode our bikes to Tokul Creek
from Carnation. On the way, at about mile five from the Carnation trailhead,
I heard a non-stop demand that was originating from a hole in a broken off
snag that was momentarily hushed only by the appearance of a Hairy
woodpecker delivering food. The chick(s) begging was amplified by the wood
enough to draw the attention of a Black Headed Grosbeak that came close
enough to the hole to worry the parent, who made a big fuss and stayed glued
to the side of the tree near the hole until the grosbeak got bored and left.
I must have watched 15 minutes and the chicks did not let up for more than a
few seconds, and they were loud!
