A brief report on a Seattle Audubon camping field trip to the Goldendale
area. We recorded a total of 97 species in two days. Saturday we birded
west of Rte. 97. We saw many Lewis'Woodpeckers, Ash-throated Flycatchers,
a Grasshopper Sparrow, Red-naped Sapsuckers, Nashville, Yellow,
Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Gray, Townsend's, MacGillirays, and
Wilson's Warblers, a White-headed Woodpecker at the Flying L Ranch and a
pair of Northern Pygmy-Owls. On Sunday, along Rock
Creek, (east of Rte 97) we had excellent looks at Yellow-breasted Chats,
Ash-throated Flycatchers, Lark Sparrows, a pair of Golden
Eagles, juvenile Canyon Wrens, Bewick's Wren, and Bushtits.
All in all, a wonderful area for birding and a a therapeutic dose of sun
for Seattleites.
