This is true. However, we have them swimming up and down the millrace in
Eugene all the time. They do prefer an area where they can get out and
graze, however. But will also dig holes in banks and eat small trees.

I'm not familiar with the habitat at Montlake, but if there is grass
available, it could be Nutria. They grow quite large.
