Tonight a messag from Sandy Cowan(sp) informed me that a meeting is being
held tomorrow to discuss the public access to Wenas Campground. Sandy was
there last weekend birding and reported the license numbers of kids who
tipped over the outhouses. She was called by a F&W employee who told her
that Boise Cascade is calling a meeting of local land owners, DNR, F&W,
ranchers and a RV resort to discuss future use of Wenas, including possible
restrictions on access. The Boise Cascade manager is Greg McQuire(sp)
and his phone is 509-453-3131.

Sandy suggests that since Wenas is used by so many of us in SAS and other
chapters that folks call and offer their help in keeping it open. She
suggests things like helping get restitution from the vandals (yes, she is
a lawyer), volunteering to rebuild outhouses, other repairs, whatever to
not loose Wenas for the future.

I'll bring this up at the SAS Board meeting. Unfortunately Hazel Wolf will
be gone for a few weeks. She had much to do with getting Wenas opened to
Audubon. I expect the SAS Board will be supportive, but like any committee
it moves slowly. Consider what you or your chapter can do to support
keeping Wenas open to the public.

Thanks. I'll update you if/when more news is available.
