Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday June 6. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

Birding has slowed considerably since the peak of the spring migration has
passed, but rare birds continue to be seen in southeastern Oregon.

A basic plumaged YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen June 1 in the Waldport Port
area of Alsea Bay. It is most probably injured. Up to 50 WHIMBREL were on
the beach near Ona Beach State Park and another 20 were in Yaquina Bay June
1. A MARBLED GODWIT was also noted.

A territorial YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was at Toledo June 3. They are quite
scarce along the coast. Several GREAT EGRETS have been summering in
northwest Oregon this year. One was at Tillamook Bay May 31.

A flock of 18 WHITE PELICANS set down on Sturgeon Lake on Sauvie Island
June 1. Several pairs of YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS are nesting at the Howell
House Marsh on the Island this summer.

Large flocks of PINE SISKINS and many RED CROSSBILLS were reported from the
Mt. Hood National Forest over the week-end. A pair of BLACK-CHINNED
HUMMINGBIRDS were at the Tygh Valley Wayside east of Tygh Valley June 1. A
RED-EYED VIREO was at DeMoss Springs Park near Moro June 3.

A COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD was at Sawyer Park near Bend May 31. It was found 500
feet north of the bridge in the park. A rather large dark greenish oriole
has been seen in the sage at Fort Rock State Park recently. So far it
remains unidentified.

The large TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD colony at Barnes Butte Lake north of
Prineville continues to be active. The VEERY colony at the Ochoco Ranger
Station is also active.

A female BLACKPOLL WARBLER was at Malheur NWR Headquarters May 27. A
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was there May 30. A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was
at Headquarters and two CATTLE EGRETS were in the meadows between there and
the Field Station June 1.

A bright male MAGNOLIA WARBLER was at Fields June 5. Flocks of LESSER
GOLDFINCHES are at Fields now with at least one nest found there.

This recording will not be updated next week.
