We saw Black Oystercatchers by the three gliding over the water. A few
of them stopped down by a log in the tidal area.
While we were on the ferry to Kingston a Gull Scooped up a clam,
flew up high, and dropped it on the front edge of the boat. He or she
cracked it open and ate it. Near the hole in the wall, there were
many, many, sea lemons eating on sponge material in a crack of a boulder.

How far can the Osprey see?

On Sunday we woke up early (6:00) to go to a low tide. We arrived at
Rialto beach. There we hiked up to the "Hole in the Wall". There we
climbed along a rock that led to a little tidepool. There we saw a
sunflower star which a classmate picked up and put into a tub filled
with water and we studied it. We also found a sea urchin. Did you know
that sea urchins use an Aristotle's Lantern (named by the philosopher
because it looks like a five sided lantern) to feed on seaweed.

We went on a camping trip to the coast at a placed called La Push. On
our way to tidepooling we noticed a Pigeon Guillamott. It was floating
in the waves and we good look at its beautiful white stripe before it dived
into the waves.

Are Pigeon Guillamotts rare?

As we walked down Rialto beach on the Olympic Penninsila, we caught sight
of an adult Osprey soaring above the crashing waves. It hovered, flapping
its majestic wings. It was searching for food below in the raging ocean.
To the right there soared a bald eagle. It was patrolling, waiting for
the Osprey to catch its prey so it could take it. We
watched the Osprey dive into the salt water and come out with....nothing.
We waited some more and soon went to explore the tide pools. Later a
father from our coompany of fourty saw the Osprey with a fish in its
talons. He did not see it catch its prey though.

When the fish is stolen from the Osprey, what will the Osprey do?

We continue working hard on our play, and all other school and birding
activities are second fiddle until next year. We have moved the
performance outdoors next to the creek area. A lovely spot. Shakespeare
on the green. Today's complete run-through saw BASW, VGSW, RTHA fly over.
We also heard a DOWP, RBNH, OCWA offer their own speeches.
