Tweeters,

For the past couple of years I have had three violet-green swallow nest
boxes attached to the wood siding of the framing around my wood stove
chimney. I have never had more than one box in use during any given year.
This year (after seeing all of the Tweeters messages concerning this
species' intolerance of its own kind), I moved one of the boxes to a
position under the eaves of the house. I now have a female incubating in
one of the chimney boxes and a female incubating under the eaves. I
measured the horizontal distance and it is 23 feet. The peak of the roof
separates the two locations so there is a visual barrier as well as the
distance separation.
