I read with interest the question (and resultant comments) about
whether wrentits occur in Washington. Once again I am submitting
myself to ridicule for not reporting sightings (something I too
frequently do, right Dennis?), but I have the excuse that this
occurred way back in my college days in the late 60's and early 70's,
before I realized that reporting sigthtings was an important thing to
do.

I used to visit frequently with my college buddy at his parents' home
in Vancouver, Wash. (Walnut Street, I recall--overlooking Vancouver
Lake). His mom is a bird watcher, and kept feeders full throughout
the year. She reported to me that she frequently had wrentits in the
yard, and occasionally they would visit the feeders--I can't remember
if she observed them throughout the year or primarily during the
summer--I think the latter). On at least two of my visits (perhaps
more, my memory's kind of hazy) I saw and heard wrentits in the yard.
I knew these were rare in Washington, but assumed that their presence
in Vancouver was well known and documented (remember, I was naive and
didn't know any better--not that age has helped me any). Any way,
there you have it--yet another very old unreported sight record from
the Brunner files.
